Description
Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia & Independent Formations in her territory in the years of 1320-1424 is one of the least studied periods in the modern historical science. The Kingdom of Cilicia has been gradually weakening in the early twenties of the 14th Century, which was largely accelerated by the actual termination of the alliance with Mongol Ilkhanate. Europe’s influence in the Middle East was reduced to a minimum on the one hand, and the power of the main enemy of the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia, the mamluke sultanate reached its peak in the 14th Century on the other. There is a perception in historical literature that the confrontation between the mamlukes and Cilician Kingdom has been in large part conditioned by the connections of the latter with the European Countries, but the vital interests of the sultanate dictated urgently a policy of destroying the only economic competitor in the Eastern Mediterranean.
